Is this a good time to say that I’ve changed the title ?
I’m going to call it Empty Space, which comes from the much-quoted

but also refers to the emptiness of the culture in which the characters live & the value-shaped gap in the lives of most of them.
Empty Space was the working title for Light. It will probably be the overall 3-volume title too.
I liked Pearlant, but, tied to the quote, this is more evocative.
