dan jones & ian miller

I’ve added a couple of new links, to Ian Miller & Dan Jones. Ian is as invigorating as ever–
–while Dan is up to his neck in Kursk at the Young Vic.
Listening to: everything I can get of the Psychedelic Furs. Regretting: a missed lunch at The Modern Pantry. Just finished reviewing: Hodd by Adam Thorpe.

I hope your Psychedelic Furs listening includes the haunting ‘Sister Europe’ and their excellent version of ‘Mack the Knife’.
And did you know Richard Butler released a really rather good eponymous solo album in 2006? Of course, I can’t lay hands on my copy now that you’ve put me in the mood to listen to it, but there you go. I daresay it’s on my iPod. Wait a sec… there we are… ‘Good Days, Bad Days’… good stuff.
“She Is Mine” : just a great song.
Other stuff: John Martyn, “Small Hours”; Joe Strummer/Masceleros, “Willesden to Cricklewood”; and – going back a bit – Murray Head and “Say It Ain’t So, Joe.”
Reading: “The Long Weekend” by Robert Graves and Alan Hodge.
It does indeed include Sister Europe. But also President Gas, All That Money Wants, Pretty in Pink, Heartbreak Beat, All of this & nothing, Valentine, Until She Comes, Don’t Be A Girl, Get A Room… All returned to their original curious woolly deepness by the Fat Boy valves. I hate digital.
Ian Miller… Ian Miller! Everyone should like and talk about Ian Miller. Why are they not already doing that? Where is the National Museum of Ian Miller? If Ian Miller is not a genius, then there is no such thing as an art genius.
Along beside you, Dan is the most understated success of anyone I know. Bravo for blogging him. Shame he won’t read it! See you Friday. Can’t wait to go underwater. Bring your goggles just incase. And some air, and sandwiches. I ain’t sharing mine with any one.
I kind of mean self-effacing, quiet success.
