things to do when you’re alive again

Go to the park every day & read in the sunshine.

Clean everything.

Throw away unwanted things.

Update your source material files. Cull your old short story files & open fresh ones.

Let new ideas in.

Go camping. Go walking. Go to the sea.

Go somewhere new.

the book (2)

Gollancz acknowledged delivery of the book a couple of days ago. As far as I know it’s still on course for April 19th 2012. Meanwhile there’s a brief extract here.

bazaar of the boring

I guess the heart & the octopus here are so-so, especially given that the heart couldn’t be identified. The rest seem pretty predictable, not as lost property but as the kinds of objects that might be selected from the category. I believe I’ve had cause to complain about this before. Lists of genuinely bizarre objects found in public places, please. & let’s have something weird, even if you have to make it up.

Reading: Born to Run by Christopher McDougall, it’s good. Thanx Lara & Julian for that. & thanx Ruth & Will for recommending The Lost City of Z by David Grann & Ground Control by Anna Minton, both of which fit snugly with my obsessions (in fact childhood memories of the 1950s fad for Fawcett’s doomed expedition to Z may lie behind that whole entradista thing).

You can make fire in almost any circumstances with a plumbers’ blowtorch. Some things it won’t light: concrete.Similar methods can be used to write a novel. Apply generously, no one ever did anything by holding back.
