unknown object

“What is literature, and why do I try to write about it? I don’t know. Likewise, I don’t know why I go on living, most of the time. But this not knowing is precisely what I want to preserve. As readers, the closest way we can engage with a literary work is to protect its indeterminacy; to return ourselves and it to a place that precludes complete recognition. Really, when I’m reading, all I want is to stand amazed in front of an unknown object at odds with the world.”

For a second I thought that Gucci Westman was part of the post.
“I find Thomas Mann fucking boring.” Which makes *me* feel a whole lot better…
The stuff about each novel’s ‘theory of the novel’ being akin to each mind’s ‘theory of mind’ is fantastic. Makes me wonder what an actually autistic novel would look like (ie. *not* a novel ‘about’ autism).
I would think an autistic novel would share DNA with Naked Lunch. You cut the present open and the future bleeds in, though maybe that’s too directly Phil Dickian.
